2004 — News in Brief
For most of
the elderly population in Minnesota, and indeed around the United
States, health care continues to be a major concern. Our own honored
Filipino Seniors are no exception. They share the concern about
the quality and cost of health care, and their ability to stay
connected to the proper resources available to them is a focus
of the FMA. On July 12th, 2003, the FMA was proud to coordinate
BANTAY PRESYON, a special day set aside for our beloved Seniors.
With the support of the PMMA (Philippine Minnesota Medical Association)
and the PNA (Philippine Nurses Association), Dr. Bernard Quebral
gave a free clinic which provided education and awareness on the
dangers of high blood pressure. This condition can be an indicator
of impending health problems such as diabetes, stroke, or heart
ailments. The day included free blood pressure checkups by qualified
health professionals, and this was followed by a pleasant walk
through the beautiful Minnehaha Falls Park. Of course, in the
true Filipino tradition, a wonderful picnic followed the walk
as a reward to our hardy Senior participants. (It is true that
perhaps not ALL of the Filipino delicacies were necessarily heart
healthy!!) A wonderful time was had by all, and most importantly,
a real service was provided in terms of awareness and prevention
education. So please watch for the next BANTAY PRESYON in 2004!
Your participation in helping our Seniors become more aware of
the importance of healthy living is greatly appreciated.
- Notice
for Lorenzo F. "Loy" Trajano
Goodbye,
to our dear friend, LOY ˆ
During our Holiday Party last Saturday, Loy was very cheerful--
greeting everyone, casually hopping from table to table with
his bright smile and friendly conversation. He spent most of
his time dancing with his grandchildren and all the other guests
dancing to the tune of the tango and rhumba. When the music
of "More" started playing he asked his wife, Nora,
to dance with him reminding her that this was their special
theme song. This was their last dance together-a memory still
so fresh with the elegance and gracefulness that they have shown
all the years.
It was indeed a lovely evening for Loy and for all of us. Perhaps,
this was an evening meant to savor each others warmth and love,
a time to share memories and stories that have brought tears
and laughter over the years, a last chance for Loy's family
and friends to see him how regular and beautiful person he was.
A man so easy to talk to, a friend who really cared.
Loy suddenly left us Monday afternoon. We will miss Loy in many
ways but most of all, we will treasure his company. He left
us a legacy of things to emulate ˆ a wonderful and loving
husband; a caring father, ever-present grandfather, a wonderful
friend, and a very compassionate doctor.
We will miss you, friend, and thanks again for the memories.
May you rest in peace with Rawdy.
